The digital age has brought about a new era of job hunting where possessing digital skills is essential. As an actor looking to expand my skill set, I was faced with the challenge of figuring out where and how to build my digital skills. Fortunately, the Digital Skills for Jobs #DS4J program offered a solution. However, gaining acceptance into the program was no small feat, as more than 1500 applicants competed for only 200 mentees.
Joining the DS4Jobs program proved to be a life-changing experience. Throughout the program, I was exposed to a wide range of skills, including web development, communication skills, digital freelancing, digital entrepreneurship, digital marketing, motion graphics, and advanced technical writing. In addition to developing these skills, I also learned how to work effectively in teams, manage projects, and report professionally. The program also provided a platform to build meaningful connections with government officials, private sector leaders, and potential clients.
After completing the program, I
immediately put my new skills to use by offering services to both local and
global clients through my startup, Sabo Digital Solutions -
SDS. However, I soon discovered that the needs of businesses in
Somalia did not align with the skills I had developed. Despite this setback, I
am proud to have been recognized as one of the #TopTalents among the 150 DS4J mentees.
